Journalling:

Here‘s the story about how our little wooden Christmas tree came to be.

A couple of years before our beloved Molly girl passed away in 2016, she started getting very forgetful and it appeared she had developed dog-dementia. She would go outside and forget why she went with a look of confusion in her eyes. She would walk into a room and then stand at the wall waiting for us to turn her whichever way she needed to go, then off she‘d walk on her merry sweet way. She also developed a habit of pacing the house in the darkness during the night while we slept, though most times I would wake and bring her back to bed.

During December I lived with the constant fear she would walk straight into the Christmas tree in the darkness and bring it down on top of her. Whilst the tree wasn‘t a big one, the fact we had very little space meant that it was rather large for the room.

Enter my darling team mate and friend Kathie from Designer Digitals, now Katie Pertiet Designs. Being an animal lover herself she knew of my plight and constant worries. One day unexpectedly a parcel arrived all the way from the USA and in it was this wooden Christmas tree sent from an American store from Kathie, for no reason, just because of a friendship across the miles and we had loved each other‘s dogs from afar through our scrapbooking.

Since that day the old Christmas tree has stayed in the top of the wardrobe cupboard never to see the light of day again. This simple little wooden tree, which I adorned with some baubles from the local supermarket has been one of my favourite Christmas decorations. Santa places the presents along the top of the buffet in a festive array adding to the decorations. The fact that I always think of my dear friend who reached out to me during our struggle with Molly, and that it reminds me of her generosity and kindness is a huge Christmas miracle bonus.

Long since Molly left this earth, this wooden tree has been a staple in our Christmas each year. I love it and the reason behind it, for our beautiful Molly girl. Gone but never ever forgotten.
