Story Scrapbook Challenge : Taking us into the Christmas picture

Hello it’s the Christmas Carol here again this month with the Story Scrapbook Challenge.  There’s a hint there in what the story is about this month.  For the December story challenge I want you to go through your Christmas photos from years gone past and pick one.  Yes just one.  I want you to feature that on the page and delve right into it.  I want you to take us by the hand and walk us into that photo.  Okay you can have two photos I’m feeling all Christmassy and generous  🙂

Tell us what was happening, who was there, who was missing, what was being said.  Where were you when the photo was taken, what had taken place?  What the day was like, the weather, what was being eaten, what was the conversation?   What was the gift you were opening?  Why the look of surprise on your face?  Who was that asleep in the background?  Why did you take the photo of the ornament, who gave it to you, what memory does it hold?  What were you eating? Who did the cooking? Are they family heirloom plates being served on?  Who spilt the wine?  Which one of you tells the corny jokes over the dinner table?

We take so many photographs on Christmas day and in the lead up and aftermath.  Why?  Because we want to remember right?  But let’s really remember, let’s dig really deep on this photograph you’ll pick and take us by the hand and immerse both yourself and us in the story in that time on that day in that photo.

And if you want to do a photoless page that’s fine, same rules apply, make us feel like we were there with you watching the happenings of which you speak, let us know what made this particular moment of Christmas holiday time important enough to want to scrap about it.

I can’t wait to see what you come up with.

The creative team have jumped on board with some example pages and it is quite humbling that they’ve been so open and raw with us, the power of the word is incredible:

Oh my word Valerie’s page is heart stopping, you can visit nana_vg here.  Thank you Valerie for being so raw with us with this beautiful page and the story behind it.  You well have truly have taken us by the hand here and understood the pain that comes with Christmas for so many people like yourself.

Maureen’s page takes us to WWII and her second Christmas.  My goodness I am sitting on that couch alongside her with her amazing story about that time.  Now *THIS* is what scrapbooking is all about.  That very simple picture of a baby near the tree could be of any one of us, but the story, that incredible story is Maureen’s alone and now it’s documented for all time, and why I am so passionate about story telling in our pages.

Shannon has documented a Christmas unlike others when her family was separated over Christmas.  But she set about making it as joyful as it could be and I love that about Shannon, making the absolute best of the day.  I love these candid pictures, I feel like we’re chatting with Tom also.
