Saturday Scraplift: Title as Design Element

Hi, Linda here with a Saturday Scraplift challenge for you. I never knew design could be so interesting until I discovered digital scrapping. Now I find it fascinating and love putting techniques to use that I’ve learned over the years. A title for your page is totally optional, but I tend to give my pages titles as a way of zeroing in on the theme of the page. Titles are versatile in that they can be a small part of the design or a focal point. We’re definitely focusing on the title for this week’s scraplift of Monica’s (mosbaskets) creative page. I really love how she made her own title of overlapping letters to frame her photo of the Chesapeake Bay. As she said when she posted the page, it would make a fabulous title page for an album – filing that one away! Here’s how Addie, Amy, and I were inspired by Monica’s page.

Monica’s page:

A cabin at a lake sounds like paradise, and Addie (agoymerac) has been posting some wonderful shots of her family enjoying their time there. I love how the circular brushes provide a tidy home for Addie’s creative title and those additional kayak shots that fill the five frames below. She perfectly positioned the photo in her title to highlight the kayakers. Her page makes even this couch potato want to get out there and do some rowing!

Amy (Amy L) made her title the star of her page, but it does have some competition from those adorable photos of her grandson building with Legos at the library. Sometimes it’s difficult to scrap pictures that contain lots of colors, but Amy embraced the challenge by using softer shades of those colors in her background paper and title. The technique works perfectly, and that little stick figure standing on the title is stinking cute.

We just returned from our annual family beach trip, and I couldn’t wait to scrap one of the gorgeous sunrise photos I took. I decided to go big with the photo and the title to make them the stars of the page. The pinky-orange streak inspired me to add a few similarly colored elements to pull the page together, and the dark area of trees at the bottom was the perfect spot for a little journaling.

I know you’re going to have fun being inspired by Monica’s page, and I’m excited to see your lifts. Remember to post your page in the Saturday Scraplift Challenge gallery as well as in the August Challenge Participation Sign In thread in the forum. Happy scrapping!
