Saturday Scraplift: Calling All Textures

When I was paper scrapping – many moons ago – I loved seeing pages with lots of texture from elements such as torn edges, buttons, and ribbons. I rarely created those types of pages myself because they added so much bulk to my albums. With the magic of digital scrapping, however, we can have it all – texture to the max AND a flat page. Her use of texture is one thing that drew me to Carol’s (carollee) terrific page. She incorporates a torn edge, metal in the form of chicken wire and brads, and a stack of framed photos showing off that cow traffic jam. Add to those elements some leafy brush work and a wicked good color scheme, and you have a page worth scraplifting. That’s just what LizT, Chrissy, Brenda, and I did. Here’s where the inspiration took us.

Carol’s page:

Liz (lizziet5) rotated Carol’s design and scrapped a series of photos of her darling grandson who wasn’t feeling so great. Her soft-hued paper choices allow the photos to take center stage, and I love how she extended the green through the botanical brushes and the brads. The chicken wire provides a great foundation for her photos and her title.

Chrissy (kikimama) stayed true to the design of Carol’s page and used a single photo of some scrumptious-looking butterscotch beer – yum! (You had me at salted caramel.) I adore the combination of her background paper and the torn piece of bright blue plaid. The stitched circles behind the photo effectively pick up the red from her foundation paper and the syrupy gold of the salted caramel.

Brenda (bbe) also rotated Carol’s design and did an amazing job of creating “white” space with dark paper – brilliant! I really like how she combined the torn edge and chicken wire in that Vintage Garden Farmhouse paper, and her botanical element creates a pleasing visual triangle with those pops of golden yellow in her photos. The torn edges also lead the viewer’s eye to those sweet pictures.

I scrapped a photo from a couple of years ago when my granddaughter turned 18 – how is it possible she will soon be TWENTY?? I swapped out the chicken wire for a circular metal grid and added some dimension by using a mat and botanicals beneath the photo of her and her roommate. Then I layered a chipboard branch, a metal heart, and one of Katie’s clusters from her new kit on top of the picture.
