Challenge of the Month – Ribbon Trees

Hello everyone! Kathy (blackkathy) here with another super fun installment of the Challenge of the Month. Even though Halloween has yet to arrive, I have been busy with creating my Christmas crafts. For me, there just isn’t enough time after Thanksgiving to get all that I want to do, done. So, here I am with another inspiration from Pinterest that shows the viral ribbon trees that you see on all the social media and in the stores. I, however, have used paper strips to create mine, which gives me more versatility with my designs and certainly more cost effective. I print out from Katie Pertiet Designs the patterns that I want using a regular printer and just regular printer paper, printing on both sides. I used the Christmas Woodlands Printable Paper on front and back. I wanted a visible contrast so the “ribbon” would pop.

I used approximately three regular sheets of printer paper for each tree.
I create my own cones from inexpensive poster board. You measure from the corner the size you want and then using that same starting point with a ruler, tick off the same length until you reach the other side. Cut the perimeter, and you will end up with this. Give it a roll from the point, making sure the bottom is level and staple, tape or even hot glue the side.
You will then take your printed paper and cut it in half right down the middle which gives you a 4.25 width. You then cut half inch strips that you will fold and staple like so.

Gather up your folded strips, cone and hot glue, put on a podcast, grab a beverage of your choice, (mine was a nice Reisling) and start hot gluing your folded strips into place making an effort to keep your rows in line. I took a strip on each row and marked across where I wanted to place them to keep the row relatively even.

On this tree, I kept the “ribbon” going all the same way.

On this one, I alternated the strips, but next time I think I will alternate the rows instead.

Here is how I displayed them in my corner cupboard.

I had a lot of fun creating these with paper as the variety is endless. I love the printables at Katie Pertiet Designs as it gives me more choices and I can color coordinate my decorations as I wish.
As always, have fun with this and I would love to see your designs in the gallery. You may upload them using Katie Pertiet Designs in the Challenge of the Month Gallery . Make sure to also upload them in the October Challenges Forum to receive credit towards that coupon you are working towards!
I used Layerworks 2477 for my layout.
