Template Mashup: Mix and Match Hearts

Hello! Merrilee (aka digigrandma) here with the first of our February Templates Mashups.

Hearts are absolutely one of my favorite designs to use on scrapbook pages and since Valentine’s Day is coming up next week,  I chose two templates for our mashing that include heart stamps, heart cutouts, heart themed elements and even the word, hearts.  I invite you to use the hearts and other design elements included in these templates to create something special of your own design.

Here are the templates we’ll use for this mashing:

Layer Works No 634

Layer Works No 1219

My volunteers from the Creative Team created shining examples for you of possible ways to mix and match the parts of the templates.

Happy Hearts

Barbara creates very colorful pages. She is a master at combining different colors and patterns and as you can see here, dots and stripes definitely go together on this page. The folded paper hearts add texture and depth to her page as well as fun colors. To achieve the texture on the hearts Barbara clipped textured papers from the Palette Textures Paper Pack series to the folded hearts. It works beautifully!! She also clipped a textured white paper to the white heart cutouts from Plainly Woven Paper Pack No. 02

This Girl

Cori also used the striped paper in her mashup example and it gives perfect balance to the right side of her page opposite the adorable cluster with the photo of her pup on the left side. Who can resist loving her cute pup? I know I can’t! I am impressed with how many different hearts she expertly placed on the page. I think her split design is very effective, too. I like the way the white heart cut outs tie the two sides of the design together. The extra elements she used in addition to the templates are from Curated Studio Mix Scrapbook Kit No 36

Valerie’s Mashup Page: With This Ring

Valerie’s page has a soft, light, very romantic look and feel, perfect for the sweet story about a family heirloom ring. Her pages always combine photos with an important family story and here you can see she left plenty of room for the journal text. I love the extra elements she used from a great kit called the Everlasting Remix Scrapbooking Kit. Lots of goodies in that kit!

Template Mashup February by Maggie Mae

And, out of the blue, Julie surprised me by using a lovely blue color scheme to create her page. It’s a wonderfully romantic page! She added blue flowers from the Booked Blue Element Pack and papers from Booked Blue Paper Pack for her Mashup. Textured Whites Paper Pack is an excellent choice for the background paper.

My own Mashup (aka digigrandma)’s Gallery

Mix and Match Hearts

For my own mashup I thought using black and white stripes and black elements along with the colorful dots would give my page a more masculine look despite all the heart stamps since the photo is of my son and grandsons making faces for the camera. I love these guys so much that hearts seem right for this page.

There you go! Thanks so much for taking a look at our examples. I hope you’re absolutely inspired to give mashing a try with these templates. Remember, the templates will be included in the Thursday sale this week and they are full of so many goodies you will use them again and again. Please post your pages in the Template Challenge Gallery and to earn credit towards the store discount coupon, be sure to also add your mashup to the February Participation Thread.
