If you have followed me over the years, you'll know that I almost always do a New Year's Day Polar Bear swim in the Pacific Ocean. This year was no different, except that my youngest son decided to join in! His best friend did it last year, and placed second, so I think there was some pressure from him to do it together and try to win. The two of them were out front and came 4th and 7th out of 500 participants (first people to ring the New Year's bell out in the water). I was further back (NOT racing) but was very proud to have made it out to ring the bell. I often don't make it out that far because depending on th tides, it can be rather deep and I am not strong in the water, especially near freezing!
