We were astounded to learn how much he already knew after he could let us know his thoughts and ideas by spelling them out, first on a stencil board and eventually on a keyboard. My DH asked him, how do you know all of these words and ideas, and, he answered, because I have been listening for 21 years! As per your quote, everything he ever heard was being absorbed, catalogued and remembered.)
