Saturday Scraplift: Fun with Cut Outs

When I was a paper scrapper, I steered away from elements on my pages that would make my albums too bulky. As a digital scrapper, however, I can achieve the look of layers and dimension without that hassle. That’s probably why I fell in love with Erin’s (Ernie88) recent page containing a large cut out S for her sweet Sophie. She filled the cut out with papers, stitching, and lace and then added word art, butterflies, and hearts on top – love, love, love! Valerie and I had lots of fun taking inspiration from Erin’s terrific page.

Erin’s page:

Valerie (nana_vg) created a border of cut out hearts for her page, telling the story of the significant challenges her daughter faced during her first year of life. I love the soft colors she chose for her design, perfectly in keeping with her subject matter. She used many elements like those on Erin’s page to decorate her heart border: word art, word strips, butterflies, hearts, and flowers.

My granddaughter is doing an engineering internship this summer and enjoying it immensely. She sent me a picture of herself, decked out in a hard hat during a site visit, which inspired my work-focused page. I had a blast filling the number cut outs with elements related to the working girl.

Cut outs can be such a versatile element on a scrapbook page; I know your creativity will get a jump start from Erin’s design. Remember to post your lift in the Saturday Scraplift Challenge Gallery as well as in the July Participation thread in the forum. Happy scrapping!
