Beginner Decorative Paper Journaling

Kathy Black here to get you started on some pretty decorative journaling using simple supplies that can be easily put into a word document and printed on regular printer paper.

To place them in a Word document, go to insert, picture, open your element and it will be placed in the document.  You can choose several at once or one at a time and you will have the option to resize.

You can choose several at once or one at a time and you will have the option to resize. For those of you that have cutting machines, the process will be a little bit easier and quicker. For those of you who don’t have one, all you need is a pair of scissors, a cup of tea and a good movie to watch as you fussy cut your elements. I inked the edges on my elements with Vintage Photo Distress Oxide. Then, using regular schoolhouse glue or any other glue you have on hand, simply add them to your chosen journal. You can grab any of the elements from Katie’s shop as they come in Png format and are 300 dpi for printable purposes. It doesn’t need to specify that it is “printable” as all of the elements are printable. I chose these for my first page in my journal, dedicated to my newest grandbaby, Jett James. I then did a dry run by placing my elements on the background page I plan on using to make sure it looks like I want the end result to be. The journal is 6 inches by 8 inches long, a perfect size that keeps me from feeling overwhelmed with “too much space to fill”.

I used the word art Keystrike Sentiment clusters for my background. I then glued everything down and added just a little bling to it. I want to keep the journal from becoming too bulky, so I didn’t add much. Here is a close up of the finished journal page.

And here it is with the whole journal. I will do a dedication on the opposite page when I have more time. But for now, JJ is laying in all his baby glory and looking just as adorable as he does in person.

I hope you will join me in creating a journal that represents something special to you, whether it will be for people, places or things or simply just for your artistic endeavors. As you can see, you need very little to create something unique and fun. And for those of you who like instant gratification, (like me) know that I completed this in just a couple of hours. I am a beginner paper journaler, too, and am so pleased that I started to create something that not only I will enjoy doing but will also enjoy looking at. I would love to see what everyone is doing with their Katie Pertiet Designs, so please share in the gallery what you are working on, whether completed or in the process. You will find the Journal Gallery here. If you also post a link to your page in the February Challenges Participation thread, you can earn a valuable coupon to the KPD store.

Supples used for my journal: Kraft Garden Blues Spiral Journal, Keystrike Sentiment Clusters, Vintage Artistry Serenity Ephemera, Vintage Artistry Serenity Chipboard, Printable Sentiment Strips 2 Papers used for the preview are Vintage Artistry Serenity Solids.
