For my page I'm sharing the story about the year I set a goal and used my running to raise money for the Brain Foundation.

Journalling:
In 2015 I wanted to achieve 2 goals. Firstly to run 1000 kilometres in the year, tracked by my trusty Garmin, seemingly impossible for a fairly newish runner with only a year or two of plodding running under my belt. But I wanted it to mean something, to run for a cause as I had seen so many others do. So in honour of my dad, who I just know would be so happy with my running, I decided to raise money for the Brain Foundation Australia. Okay decision made but how do I do that? Firstly I contacted the Brain Foundation who were thrilled to have me on board as one of their fundraising ambassadors for the year. So I then signed up to an Everyday Heroes page and put forward my story and the hardest part of all was putting it out there. Oh gosh fundraising is hard, you don’t want to badger people, but the most surprising thing happened after I put my story up on my facebook - my email started dinging that donations were coming in.

I had set the goal for 2015 to run 1000 kilometres in memory of my dad who passed away of Progressive Supranuclear Palsy in 2007. I made regular updates on the page, thanking individually the donations that had come in, told stories of my dad and the disease, and let everyone know how I was going with my kilometre goal. Every now and then I’d pop it up on my facebook and each time donations came forth. I also got my name in the Brainwaves quarterly magazine.

I had set a hopeful goal of raising $500 for the year. End result was a total of $802.87 and a smashing 1135.56 kilometres.

And best part was Mike cheering me on, he would come on some of my runs with me and this particular photograph was taken on the last day of 2015 when the last kilometres for the year were being run and we were awarded with the prize of a most spectacular sunrise, a fitting end to a grateful year of running and fundraising.
