Ruby Beach Driftwood

It was our first trip to the Olympic Peninsula. I am always excited when I go to a place I have only read about and it is even more wonderful than I could have imagined. We spent a whole day exploring the beach on the Pacific side. I do not know why I am fascinated with driftwood but I am. I lay down in the sand to get the angle I wanted for this shot. And waited...and waited...and waited. Finally, the sun broke through and lit up the water, transforming the gray ocean into an aquamarine jewel before ducking back behind the clouds. If I lived near an ocean, I believe that I would never tire of watching the shifting colors of the water and combing the beaches for the day’s treasures. I picked up a small piece of wood as a souvenir, but left the piece in this picture since it was about 10 feet long. Somehow, I think I might have had trouble taking it home on the plane.
