More gluten free ginger biscuits and cappuchino’s and less eggs and early morning breakfasts. More lazy weekends and chilling and less family get togethers and road trips. More journals and pens that write beautifully and less high street shopping and eating out. More online shopping and screen time and less catching up and face to face conversation. More overthinking and indecision and less certainty than ever before. More cabin fever and long Winter nights and less creativity and fun. More loss and disappointment and less freedom and common sense.
Totally hooked on Virgin River on Netflix. I’ve watched Seasons 1 and 2 twice throughout December and I’m desperate for Season 3 but I believe it’s only going to be released in Autumn 2021... noooooooo! That’s such a long time to wait! What does a girl need to do around here to get some more decent TV? In the meantime, Sweet Magnolias has caught my attention but I think there’s only one season of that available at the moment. Ugh. It will do - for now. Roll on September 2021 in more ways than one.
And just like that 2020 is DONE. Thank the Lord. It’s been an incredibly long, difficult and painful year for so many in so many different ways. Our absolute high was the safe arrival of Ace and he will carry that crown with him for the rest of his life. He got us all through this year. The girls also kept me going and they’ll never know just how much. As each sticking point of the year passed, the dreams that I had got further and further out of my reach which makes me terribly sad. I don’t know if I have the strength or energy to claw them back, or even if they’re worth it anymore. I feel that phase of my life has gone and I’m not sure I’m brave enough to try to haul it back. My word for 2021 is courage and I know I’m going to need a lot of it. So on New Years Eve, while Jimmy turned 73 and Fred turned 70, there wasn't a magic wand at midnight and things may even get a little tougher before getting better. I do hope though that I can look forward with less worry and anxiety and more faith and hope. I hope I can do it. I hope I’m strong enough. And I hope I will survive it. So here’s to 2021, may it be a much better year for everyone.
One day when he’s old enough to understand, I’ll tell this gorgeous boy just how much he’s been our shining light this year. He’s the one who has made 2020 so worthwhile for our family. The one who has brightened our days in the midst of all the gloom and doom. We love you so much Ace!
