In the Blue Hour

A blue heron in the blue hour on the Yellowstone River. Journaling reads: Sitting by the river bank, both of us sizing up the other. The sun is near the horizon but has yet to show its face. Slowly details of the landscape emerge. He studies me from the “corner” of that round, bright eye. Will this creature encroach on his fishing spot? Is it a danger or merely an irritation? For me, has it been worth the wait? Will my frozen fingers forgive me? There is a life lesson here I’m sure...something profound perhaps about patience rewarded. For now, I just bask in the moment.
