I heard the bells

Today the daily Advent Devotional I subscribe to from the CS Lewis Institute featured the Christmas carol, I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day. The words were written by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow during the time the US Civil War was raging. It must have seemed a very bleak time to him, but, he took comfort and joy from hearing the ringing of church bells on Christmas Day and wrote these words. I knew immediately I wanted to include a page about the song in my December Days of Comfort and Joy. I think the words Longfellow wrote so long ago have a timely message for us today. TFL

Another great page - I heard the bells is another of my favorite carols - I never knew the story thanks for sharing!!!

I love this so much! We just sang that at church on Sunday, and I agree that the message is extremely timely for today. "God in not dead nor doth He sleep!" This is beautifully scrapped too! Love the verses surrounding the bells.
