Where I Stand – Challenge of the Month

There’s something quietly powerful about looking down at your own feet. “Where I stand” photography has become one of my favorite creative practices—not because it’s flashy or complicated, but because it grounds me in the exact moment I’m living. It turns ordinary life into a visual diary, one frame at a time. When you take a photo from where you stand, you’re not just capturing shoes on a floor. You’re documenting a place, a feeling, a season of life, and the tiny details that normally slip by unnoticed. A downward perspective is honest. It doesn’t ask you to smile, pose, or tidy up the background. It simply says, “This is me today. Right here.” And that’s what makes it beautiful. A “where I stand” image can capture: the worn boards of your kitchen floor, morning light stretching across a rug, gravel under your feet on a walk, leaves, puddles, or fresh snow, or a special place or thing.

Here I am standing in my living room in my socks. I prefer walking around without shoes when I am in my house. Next, I am in my kitchen trying to keep my socks clean while I cook. (I am a very messy cook!) And next I am outside in the new fallen snow.

This is the view from the doorway in my bedroom. Every time I enter, there is a reminder of what I should be doing to keep my peace.

Try snapping one “where I stand” photo a day. No rules. No themes. No staging.
Just: Where are you right now? What are your feet pointing toward? What does this moment look like? December is a month full of rushing, reflecting, and shifting routines—but that makes it the perfect time to slow down with a habit like this. Sometimes the most ordinary moments tell the richest stories.

I wanted to keep this challenge simple so really, no rules except to use all Katie Pertiet Designs products. Have fun with it and make sure to upload your creations in the Challenge of the Month Gallery, then into the December Challenges Participation forum so you may receive credit. I will be watching you! 🙂 Ha..I can’t wait to see what your creative minds come up with! Remember, just have fun with it!
