Then and Now: Possessions

Hello, Julie here with a new challenge! Here is the overall description: The Then and Now Challenge gets you to dig deep into your stash of photos and find pictures that tell a story over a number of years. The page you create might show how things have changed or stayed the same, or maybe it will uncover a familiar theme with the passage of time. You might find photos of a treasured possession, a friendship that has stood the test of time, photos that depict a first and last (day of school, work, where you lived, etc…) or even different hairstyles through the decades. The results of this challenge can be light-hearted, or more serious depending on your interpretation of the theme.
This month we are focusing on a treasured possession. But don’t worry if you don’t have a “then” photo. You can still participate, and Sharon’s page will show an example of that. Katie has generously provided a freebie with a few elements I thought might be helpful to complete the challenge.
First up we have a layout by Shannon. She has created a lovely page about a tradition of collecting plates, inspired by her Grandmother. Not only does she have photographs from five different periods in time, her journaling helps complete the story.
Shannon has used the following products to create her layout: Krafty Journal Layered Template 07, Monthly Memories Vol. 02: Foundations 01, Frame and Blend Story Layered Templates 08 (freebie), Corkboard Arrows 01 (freebie), and Stained Word Bits 01 (freebie).
Our next page is by Sharon and she tells a story about a Royal Douton Dickens salad bowl inherited from her grandmother via her mum. It ties in with her love of Dicken’s literature and while she does not have a “then” photo, her descriptive journaling makes up for it!
Sharon used the following products: Torn and Framed Layered Template 11, Frame and Blend Story Template 08 (freebie), Krafty Garden Ephemera, Krafty Garden Paper Pack 01, Krafty Garden Solids Paper Pack, Tag Frames 02, and City Maps Paper Pack 02.
Next up is a page by LoriAnn. She documented the changes to her family home through the years, from when it was built to current updates. She used arrows to show the progression and tabs to add details to the photos. And what a beautiful home it is – I love the addition of the blue shutters!
LoriAnn kept it simple and only used a few additional products on her page. Home for the Holidays Scrapbook Bundle, Anzio Solids Paper Pack, Clipped Stack Layers 16, and Pine Woods Essentials Stamp Pack.
And here is my page. I documented the journey of my husband’s Camaro from when he purchased it to when he sold it. I used the Corkboard Arrow (from the freebie pack) to show the change from the then to the now picture, and a large block of journaling to tell the story.
In addition to the freebies (then and now word art and the corkboard arrow), I used the following products: Monthly Memories Vol. 05 Layered Templates 01 (Tabbed Frame and “moments to remember’ word art), Classic Cardstock: Hoops, Classic Cardstock: Jungle, Clean Stitched Borders: White No.1, Corkboard Photo Frames 01, Stamped Sentiments 04, and Summer Porch Ephemera Plus.
I love pages that tell a story, and I hope you will be inspired to participate in this challenge. Please post your layout in the Then and Now Challenge Gallery, and also add it to the January Participation Thread in the community forum. Happy scrapping and I look forward to seeing your pages!
