Template Mashup: Circles and Lush Greenery

Merrilee (aka digigrandma) here with the first of two Template Mashup Challenges in the month of May. I am so excited to show you the amazing way the CT and Guest CT members mashed the two featured templates. Their pages went above and beyond my wildest expectations and I am convinced that you, too, will create masterpieces if you choose to join in on the mashing fun.

Loaded with greenery, circle and rectangular photo frames, plus circular shapes in the form of stitching, paint and word art, the two templates offer a myriad of possibilities for your own unique design. To join in, grab the templates (on sale for Thrifty Thursday), if they are not already in your digital stash.

The only rule for the Challenge is to take parts of each templates and rearrange them on a new page of your own design.  Post your completed page in the Template Mashup Gallery and also in the May Participation Thread in the forum for points towards a store discount for completing challenges. Sit back and admire your accomplishment! That is all there is to it and the reward is another great scrapbook page completed.

To help you get started thinking about how you will create your own design, check out the five layouts created by our team. Each page is so unique and most were completed using only the contents of the templates plus a choice of background paper. As you look at the examples, take note of how each artist used one or more circle shapes in their designs and how greenery was used as embellishments to enhance the overall design.

Sarah (aka sterkeurs)’s page features her three handsome children in a line up of  photos framed by the circle shaped photo frames  spread across the center of the page. Note there’s even a twist included in one template that gives a feeling of circular movement to her awesome page. Just the right amount of greenery adds the finishing touches. Her background paper is from the new Hidden Creek Paper Pack 01

Guest CT member, Renee’s (aka 5grand) page made use of the abundance of branches and plants included in the templates for her expert layering under the two photos.  Circles of stitching and the twist are layered underneath all the greenery. I love the way Renee signs her page down in the corner like the true artist she is! That is such a good idea!

On Valerie’s (aka nana_vg) page, the circle shape of the photo frame is repeated with the circular word art stamp and plenty of greenery in the layers is also so effective.  Her second photo frame is rectangular which adds variety in framing. The page is filled with light and cheerfulness and the butterfly adds charm. The background paper is from Palette Texts Paper Pack 34.

Guest CT, Monica (aka mosbaskets), chose to create a simple design that includes the circle stitches and the circular word art which are nice touches for perfectly grounding the photos and the added embellishments. Monica’s page showcases all the little extras that are included in the two templates and there is lots of personality in her fun photos! It’s also interesting to see a design using a dark green background found in the Hidden Creek Solids Paper Pack.

And, I have one more outstanding example of mashing to show you. It’s by Wendy (aka wendymck) and it features gorgeous sunset photos taken in Oregon by her daughter. Look how the green circles of paint, the stitched circles and the added greenery all work together with her photos for a unified, finished look to the page. Do you love the attention getting title she created with the Watery Alphabet 07? I do!! A background paper from Hidden Creek Solids Paper Pack completes the page.

Thanks for looking at our examples. I hope to see you in the Gallery with your own unique design for this challenge. Mashing is easy and fun!
