Something Old, Something New: August

Hi everyone! It’s Trace (tracermajig) back with another Something Old, Something New challenge for you. This month we are playing with metals and vintage journal spots and I have a tonne of inspiration to get you started!
If you are new to this challenge, there is only one rule and that is to use at least one of the old and new products selected on your layout. If you have these element packs, feel free to use anything from them. Otherwise Katie has provided a freebie to get you started. Let’s see what we are playing with!
Now, let’s check out that inspiration I was telling you about!
I love how Addie (AddieG) used the old set of vintage journal spots as layering pieces behind her photo. The layered metal pieces are also a great combination for a sub title!
These are the products Addie used to create her page: Bookplate Notes 02, Chippy Metal Plates 01, Colorful Paint Layers 01, Edge Overlays 12, Loosely Scripted Sentiments Brushes and Stamps 06, Taped Together Overlays 04, Vintage Journal Spots 03, Vintage Journal Spots 07, Vintage Photo Frames 47
Chrissy’s (kikimama) layout is also a great example of using the journal spots for layering pieces. The shadowing is all done for you and it makes it so easy to add pops of colour and dimension to your page.
Chrissy used these products on her page: Blue Skies Solids Paper Pack, Bookplate Notes 02, Chimayo Washi Tapes, Chippy Foundation Remnants 01, Fading Words Stamps and Layers 06, Field Guide Classifieds Overlays 02, Golden Starbursts 01, Monthly Memories Vol 03 Pattern Essentials Paper Pack 08, Painted Quatrefoils Stamp Pack 04, Vintage Botanicals Layered Photo Frames 02, Vintage FlashCards Traveler, Vintage Journal Spots 03, Vintage Journal Spots 07
I’m always in awe of Amy’s (Amy L) pages. I love how the metal elements frame her photos and once again those vintage journal spots work so perfectly as layers and photo mats for those adorable pictures. The curled vintage journal spot makes the page look so real!
This is what Amy used to create her layout: Bookplate Notes 02, Chippy Metal Plates 01, Great Getaway Solids Paper Pack, Layer Works 2126, Layer Works 2194, Vintage Journal Spots 03, Vintage Journal Spots 07, Watery Typecast Sentiments 14
Rachael (myssp) is a layering master! I love how the big metal plate could work as a title or your journaling. It gives such a wonderful, dramatic effect with the black elements and black and white photo!
This is what Rachael used to create her page: ARToptions Rouge Sentiment Transfers 01, Artsy Inked XOXO Brushes and Stamps 01, Bookplate Notes 02, Chippy Foundations Paper Pack 02, Chippy Metal Plates 01, Doodledo Frames Stamp Pack 17, Done with Doilies Photo Clusters 02, Kitlet Solids Paper Pack 06, Layer Works 2334, Messy Mixed Masks 02, Outlined and Scripted Sentiments Brushes and Stamps 03, Vintage Journal Spots 03, Vintage Journal Spots 07
For my (tracermajig) page, I wanted to challenge myself to combine the vintage feel of the metal and journal spots with something soft and light. What better way to do that than with florals. I really love how this turned out and I got to tell a story about a time when Poppy used to pick me flowers any time she went outside.
For my page these are the products that I used: Blendable Layers 76, Bookplate Notes 02, Botanical Stickers 02, Chippy Metal Plates 01, Clipped Stacks 10, Curated Favorites Paper Pack 06: Whimsical Florals, Monthly Memories Element Pack 05, Monthly Memories Element Pack 06, Partial Page Masks 12, Pine Woods Solids Paper Pack, Sherene Element Pack, Sketched and Scripted 03, Swimmies Element Pack, Vintage Artistry Blush Ephemera Stack Layers, Vintage Artistry Butter Stack Layers, Vintage Journal Spots 03, Vintage Journal Spots 07
I hope we have given you plenty of inspiration to join in the challenge! Don’t forget to upload your page to the Something Old, Something New gallery and to also update the August Challenges participation thread to earn store rewards. See you again next month!
