Scraplift: Cut it Out

Peek-a-boo – I see you! Cut outs and peek-a-boo elements on pages scream fun, don’t they? They add interest and make the viewer come back for a second look, and don’t we all love getting a second look? Those cut outs are what drew me to Rachael’s lovely page for the last color challenge – okay, maybe the color purple also drew me in, but that’s another story. My fellow Creative Team members Sylvia and Erin joined me in taking inspiration from Rachael’s page. I think you’ll be inspired, too.
Rachael’s page:
Sylvia (smcloone) was inspired by Rachel’s cut out hearts and used them as a backdrop for her pretty photos of flower buds. I really like the interest she added by using a polka dot paper to back her cut outs, and the rosy pink and green color combination is a winning one. I also admire the way her butterfly accent, the dark pink cord, and her title draw the eye through her design.

Erin (Ernie88) elected to go with a star shape for her cut outs to support the sports theme of a page featuring her little athlete. She drew her color scheme from his uniform, always a winner, and notice that her white background paper adds texture and reinforces her theme with the embossed stars. She also created a great visual triangle with her clusters of elements.

For my page, I had fun with the cut out technique on several elements: a full page border, a smaller interior frame, and the title. In addition, I used one of Katie’s fun chunky cuts to reinforce the idea of cut outs and to support my flower theme. Can you tell I really like this technique?
