Saturday Scraplift: Embrace the White Space

I have to confess: I’m white space challenged. Fortunately, Audrey (adrianita) is not, and her beautiful page is a model for using that particular design element. The tight cluster of her focal point immediately draws the viewer’s eye, but all that glorious white space allows the eye to rest – perfection! Jana, Erin, and Barbara, my fellow Creative Team members, joined me in taking inspiration from Audrey’s page. Here’s where it took us:

Audrey’s page:

Jana (jana) designed a beautiful fall page featuring stacked circle frames. I love the layered word strips that serve as an anchor in the lower right corner of her focal point. The postage stamps beneath the photo and Jana’s “stickerized” title extend design lines vertically and horizontally. For interest, she also masked a pretty patterned paper.

Erin (Ernie88) scrapped a family photo taken at a wedding – always an opportune time since everyone’s spiffed up (gosh, her boys are growing!). She layered her photo above and below with a number of different elements: brush work, a doily, florals, and her title. The muted greens pick up the color of her husband’s tie and complement the blues nicely.

Barbara’s (grantlaurensmom) page illustrates the point that white space doesn’t have to be white. She created a beautiful background for her photo with the Vintage Artistry Nature Study Kit, but it still provides a resting place for the viewer’s eye. The focal point remains that great shot of her and her mom.

I have another confession. Christmas photos are not my favorite to scrap, but Katie’s new Christmas Spectacular Kit was perfect for the photo of me and my boy George. (Doesn’t he look thrilled?) There were so many great bits and pieces to choose from for layering. Not content to leave well enough alone, however, I couldn’t resist adding a festive overlay.

Whether you’re white space challenged or have a PhD in white space, I think you’ll find lots of inspiration in Audrey’s page. Remember to post your page in the Saturday Scraplift Challenge Gallery and in the November Challenges Participation sign-in thread in the forum. Happy scrapping!
