Photo Focus: It’s Cold!

Hello, it’s Audrey (adrianita) here and welcome to the NEW photo challenge. In this challenge we will choose just ONE photo for our page based off of a different theme each month. Then we’ll use elements, stamps, titles or journaling to accentuate that theme, keeping the focus on the singular photo.

For the month of January I chose the theme “cold”. Find a photo shows COLD to you. Choose a word art, stamp and a doily, and add any other elements, papers, stamps you’d like, but keep it to one photo. Katie has generously provided a FREEBIE PACK to help create a photo-focused page. Here are some great examples from the team.

First up is It’s Cold Outside by Addie (AddieG). Her soft colors help to showcase the delicate photo for the bird on the on the snowy, iced branch, and the page is lightly embellished. Spill frames such as the one she used are perfect for single-photo pages!

Supplies Addie used: Spill Frame Layers 10, Worth Repeating 38, Doily Edgers 01, Curated Studio Mix Scrapbooking Kit 18

The second example page is Cold Magic, brought to you by Linda (earlofoxford). I am impressed by her composition here with the black textured background, subtle blue accents and the delightful icy overlay. She picked the perfect photo to showcase the wonder and intricacy of snowflakes!

Supplies Linda used: Brilliant Love Solids Paper Pack, Snowfall Overlays 01: Glammed Up, Hand Scripted Brushes and Stamps 15, Cadmium Gardens Element Pack, Fall Market Scrapbook Element Pack, Chalked Flakes Brushes and Stamps 01,Chalked Flakes Brushes and Stamps 02, Chalked Flakes Brushes and Stamps 03, White on White Paper Pack 01, Frosted Fun Element Pack, Fastener Basics 01

The next page is So Cold by Karen (grandmak). The torn photo really showcase the panoramic view of the mountains. The bird in the foreground is highlighted by both the stitching and the doily. She used the brushwork to give the subtle effect of falling snow.

Supplies Karen used (in addition the freebie pack): Polar Mountain Glitter Flakes, Ripped Vintage Photo Frames 02, Assorted Messy Stitches: White 06, Cabana Whites Paper Pack

Fourth we have Snow Much Fun by Valerie (nana_vg). Again the spill frame helps the photo to pop out of the page, and her journaling is terrific on the white paper background that almost looks like a blanket of snow itself. I love the torn layers at the top that give added depth, and how she picked out a few red accents to coordinate with little Levi’s outfit.

Supplies Valerie used (in addition to challenge freebie): Hand Drawn Winter Stamps 01, Bunny Slope Rosy Element Pack, Doily Edgers 03, Torn Templates 02, Curated Studio Mix Scrapbooking Kit 18, Vintage Winter Woods Paper Pack 02, Spill Frame Layers 21, Arctic Whites Paper Pack

And last, for my page, I was quite limited in cold photos as my city has not seen snow since 1977. With my page No Snow Here, I hoped to convey how cold it was to be in the water on this January day in Florida, using winter accents and colors. After all, the bountiful and beautiful winter elements in the KPD store needn’t be restricted to snow photos!

Supplies I used: Stitched Frame Clusters 01, Readymade Layers: Winter Clusters 17Watery Spots 16 Stamp PackDeep Freeze StampsStamp Sets Vol. 02 JollyDoily Edgers 02

I hope you will enjoy using your own creativity to delight in the simplicity of a page focused on a single photo. I can’t wait to see what COLD-inspired pages you design this January, that is indeed bringing some fierce weather to parts of the northern hemisphere.

Please post your page in the new PHOTO CHALLENGE GALLERY and don’t forget that if you make your page with 100% KPD product you can earn shopping rewards with our BRAND NEW challenge rewards program. Keep track of the challenge pages you complete in the January Challenges Participation Sign-in Thread in the forums.

I hope you enjoy this new challenge as much as I did. Stay warm and happy scrapping!
