Get Inspired: Dictionary Edges

Good morning everyone!
I love anything vintage and anything book or text related which just may explain why Designer Digitals is my digital home – no-one does that mix better than Katie!
So . . . what’s not to love about these?

You may have seen my Bushfire page recently. I wanted to keep the very dramatic smoke photo very large and yet still wanted a space to feature the fire as well. By placing the Dictionary Edge on the right hand side of the page, I managed to create a quieter spot for the fiery photo, a couple of small journaling spaces as well as room for the full length sideways title. Using a background paper the same colour as the fire gives it equal weight to the large photo even though it’s much smaller.

I was pleased with the way it turned out and challenged myself to use Dictionary Edges on a couple more pages.

For my next page, instead of having the Dictionary Edge on the EDGE of the page, I moved it in about a third of the width of the page. This utilizes the Rule of Thirds which is a useful design tool. I tucked it under a sheet of paper and placed another sheet underneath it. I used papers from Katie’s new Monthly Memories Vol. 03 Pattern Essentials Paper Pack to get a darker and lighter version of the same pattern which adds some cohesion to the page.

Then I layered photo and elements over the edge of the top piece of paper and added a saucy title with a line of jounaling. Done!

You will have noticed that one pack of Dictionary edges is right orientated and the other left orientated. For my last example, I used an edge from each pack and butted them up against each other in the middle of the page. With some careful erasing of some parts and a paper tag to hide the join, I had a readymade layered stack. I couldn’t resist adding a few extra bits and pieces under and around the photo. A bit of wordart and a lacey brush underneath and another page is done.

These Dictionary Edges are such an easy way to add a lot of interest to a very simple page. I hope you will join me in trying them out this month. I’ve asked Randy to pop both sets in this week’s sale. I’ll be adding my extra layouts, with complete product lists, to the Scrapbook Challenge Gallery and I hope to see your layout there too!
