Brush it Up Challenge: Love is in the Air

Julie here with a new Brush it up Challenge for February: Love is in the Air! The brush pack we will be using for the challenge is Monthly Memories Vol. 03 Brushes and Stamps 02. I thought this was a fairly versatile pack as you can use the elements for many different types of pages. You can use the February word art and dates for a Weekly Recap page. The solid hearts can be duplicated to form a background element for a photo cluster. You could repeat the intertwined outline hearts down one side of the page for a fun design element. And the little word clusters can be sprinkled throughout the page. Like Carol talked about last month, I use the .png files when working with the brushes. I will clip a solid color layer to the element on the page and then keep playing with the color layer until I get the shade I like best. I’m still working on a page for the challenge, but you can see what I mean about adding the hearts behind a photo cluster here. I also used the date strip and broke it up over the three photos.

For our sample pages from the Creative Team, first up we have Rachael with a fabulous page that uses at least eight of the brushes! Love all the layers she used and how she transformed some of the brushes into stickers by adding a white stroke with a drop shadow. Love this look!

I like the way she placed the title in the bottom corner and then stacked a few of the word art brushes to make a larger title cluster.

Erin made a super cute page for the challenge which features lots of red and splashes of green. I love this color combo! I also like the way she added patterned paper in the two frame openings beside the main photo. Notice how she changed the color of the date on the brush strip, an alternate to adding a circle or heart around the date.

Guest CT Member Carol is next with a page featuring some vintage photos. The black and white photos look great with all the pinks and I like how she increased the size of one of the smaller word art brushes to use as the title.

Carol kept it simple by starting with a template and added in the brushes to compliment the layout. All My Heart Layered Template, Cottage Charm Solid Paper, and Monthly Memories Vol. 03 Brushes and Stamps 02.

Finally we have Carol with a sweet page featuring a sweet moment. I love the subtleness of the elements she added behind the photo cluster to keep the attention on the photos. Carol also added a white stroke around the brushes to make a sticker for the title and xoxo.
